Bloom would like to wish every mom out there a Happy Mother’s Day!

Being a mother can be one of the toughest, yet most fulfilling, jobs out there. That’s why we’re happy when we hear about moms who are able to successfully balance the never-ending job of being a parent, with the responsible consumption of cannabis to medicate or to simply enjoy some relaxation.

What is a Cannamom?

At the end of a long day taking care of the kids and other life responsibilities, it can feel nice to enjoy a special treat that helps you unwind. For some, a cup of herbal tea will do the trick. Some moms may choose something a little stronger like an alcoholic beverage.

The thing is, alcohol is not great for your health. In fact, in January of 2023, the World Health Organization published a statement saying, “when it comes to alcohol consumption, there is no safe amount that does not affect health.”

According to the World Health Organization’s website, “alcohol is a toxic, psychoactive, and dependence producing substance and has been classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer – this is the highest risk group, which also includes asbestos, radiation, and tobacco.”1

The Emergence of the Canna Mom

Understanding the risks of unwinding with alcohol, more moms are choosing to do so with cannabis. And that is what we call a Weed Mom, or Cannabis Mom.

A few years ago, parents may have felt ashamed to admit they enjoyed cannabis out of fear of judgment. But as we learn more about the potential medicinal benefits of cannabis and its legalization spreads across the country, there’s less of a stigma associated with parenting and cannabis use.

At the same time there’s been an increase in awareness of mental health issues and the potential for cannabis to help treat those issues. With that we have more parents turning to weed, and away from alcohol, to help alleviate some of the stress of daily life.

How Can Cannabis Help?

A study from February of 2020, examined the potential of cannabis to help treat mood disorders like anxiety and depression. Specifically, it examined the potential of the cannabinoids and terpenes found in cannabis to treat these mental health issues.

You see, when the natural compounds in cannabis are consumed together, instead of individually, it can provide enhanced cannabis experience known as the entourage effect.

Well, this study from 2020 found that when consumed together, the cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis could be beneficial for those dealing with things like stress and depression. The authors of the study also stated that cannabinoids and terpenes could be a viable alternative for those looking to avoid the undesirable effects of pharmaceutical antidepressants.

This is promising news for the millions of Americans dealing with mood disorders – which are the most prevalent mental health condition encountered in psychiatric practice. So, now that we understand why more parents are turning to cannabis, let’s talk about some gift ideas for moms who enjoy marijuana.

Gift Ideas for Moms Who Smoke Weed

When it comes to gifts for the canna mom in your life, there are many options available. But when it comes to helping moms destress, while remaining mentally alert, there’s a certain type of cannabis that could be ideal. We’re talking about cannabis sativa.

Although there’s some debate about the number of species of Cannabis, there are three species that are generally recognized:
